Fresh Bedtime Herbal Tea

Growing and making your own tea blends for home remedies can be easy and rewarding as you can play with the amounts to address preferences in taste as well as health benefits This is a versatile little tea, that can be made with dried ingredients or fresh depending on the time of year. Chamomile, Lavender and Sage are all very easy to grow, but they can also be readily bought at Garden Centers, as well as buying dried ingredients online. Do try and source a good supplier though, particularly for herbs you plan to ingest, I recommend the or, if you don’t have these herbs readily available at home.

This is a great tea for after food and before bed, as it will help with digestion and relaxing all the muscles in the body. It also contains Sage, which is an excellent anti-bacterial herb, and good if you have a cold or the flu or have been exposed to these germs. Lavender gives an interesting flavor, and will help ease any anxiety, stress or tension, if the flavor is too astringent you can add a little honey – its wonderful if you can source local honey too.

When making dried…

  • Use 1 part chamomile flowers – I used 1 teaspoon
  • Use 1/2 teaspoon Sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon Lavender

When making fresh…

  • You want to use the same ratios as above but in smaller quantities and make sure you bruise the sage leaves slightly or chop them.
  • I would recommend harvesting what you need and leaving to dry for 24 hours, this I think makes the best flavor tea.
  • The dried ingredients will keep happily in a jar for 6 months.

Lavender; as a tea is great for easing aches and pains, relaxing muscles and soothing tension.

Chamomile; as a tea will reduce nervous excitability, insomnia and general anxiety, I also find it excellent for menstruation.

Sage; as a tea (not to be drunk excessively!) will aid the liver, kidneys, heart and digestion.

*please note these recipes are from my own experiments with herbs and are intended as a ‘home remedy’ only. Please always consult a Dr if you have ongoing medical issues.
